𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗷𝗮, 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 | 𝟮𝟯 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲
The 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 (𝗣𝗖𝗥𝗖) 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝟮 (𝗦𝗣𝗨𝟮) has reaffirmed its commitment to community policing and humanitarian service by co-sponsoring a large-scale free medical outreach that provided essential healthcare services to more than 𝟮𝟬𝟬 vulnerable and indigent residents in Abuja.
The outreach was organised in collaboration with 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝟵𝟭𝟮𝟳 under its 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, alongside 𝗟𝗮 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 and 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆, demonstrating the strength of strategic partnerships in promoting public health, community safety and sustainable social development.
As part of its broader mandate to strengthen relationships between the police and members of the public, the unit supported the outreach to ensure that vulnerable residents had access to essential and potentially life-saving healthcare services at no cost.
𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗗
Beneficiaries received a comprehensive range of free healthcare services, including:
* HIV testing and counselling
* Malaria testing and treatment
* Blood sugar screening
* Eye examinations
* Deworming for children
* Distribution of Mama Kits to pregnant women
* Distribution of Treated Mosquito Nets to women and elderly persons
* Distribution of sanitary towels to women
* Prescribed medications
* Free prescription eyeglasses for beneficiaries diagnosed with vision impairments
Individuals who required specialist medical attention were referred to designated hospitals in Abuja for further evaluation, treatment and continued medical care.
𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗬
One of the most remarkable outcomes of the outreach was the encouraging improvement recorded in HIV screening results within the community.
While a previous intervention recorded 𝟴 positive HIV cases among 𝟭𝟵 persons tested, the current outreach recorded 𝟯 positive cases among 𝟴𝟬 persons tested.
This encouraging development reflects the effectiveness of sustained community sensitisation, public health education, early diagnosis, counselling, referral services and continuous collaborative healthcare interventions.
Speaking after the outreach, representatives of the 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝟮 commended the dedication of all partner organisations, healthcare professionals, volunteers, community leaders and donors whose collective contributions made the programme a success.
The Committee emphasised that community security extends beyond crime prevention and law enforcement to include protecting the health, dignity and overall well-being of citizens.
“𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. Community policing thrives where citizens enjoy good health, trust public institutions and have access to essential social services.
This outreach demonstrates what can be achieved when security institutions, humanitarian organisations, healthcare professionals and development partners work together in the interest of the people.

The Committee commended 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝟵𝟭𝟮𝟳, 𝗟𝗮 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 and 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 for their unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
𝗣𝗖𝗥𝗖 𝗦𝗣𝗨𝟮 described the partnership as an inspiring model of collaboration that should be replicated across Nigeria to address the healthcare needs of underserved and vulnerable communities.

𝗣𝗖𝗥𝗖 𝗦𝗣𝗨𝟮 called on government institutions, private sector organisations, development agencies, philanthropic foundations, civil society organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to support similar interventions that address healthcare, public safety and community welfare.
The Committee noted that expanding access to preventive healthcare not only saves lives but also contributes significantly to the development of safer, healthier, stronger and more productive communities.
The organisers expressed profound appreciation to every healthcare professional, volunteer, donor, traditional leader, community representative and partner organisation whose invaluable contributions ensured the success of the outreach.
The 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝟮 reaffirmed its resolve to continue partnering with reputable organisations to promote public safety, healthcare, peacebuilding, community development and humanitarian service.
This commitment remains central to its vision of building stronger, more peaceful and mutually beneficial relationships between the 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 and the communities they serve.

Through strategic partnerships and people-centred initiatives, 𝗣𝗖𝗥𝗖 𝗦𝗣𝗨𝟮 continues to advance safer, healthier, more peaceful and resilient communities across Nigeria.
